HAMPTON ROADS, Va. — According to court documents, 26 people were arrested in connection to drug trafficking in Hampton Roads.

Some of the felony charges include possession, distribution, money laundering, and racketeering.

The defendants’ ages range from 22 to 43 years old. If convicted, they face a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Records reveal members of the drug ring were bringing drugs from California to Virginia.
In total, 1000kg of marijuana was found, as well as 40 grams of fentanyl. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, it only takes 2mg of fentanyl to kill someone. In the recent bust, that equates to 20,000 lethal doses of fentanyl.
“They have to be held accountable for the lives they have taken, and the lives they could have taken,” said Portsmouth mother Elizabeth Ripley.
Ripley lost her son Michael to fentanyl, and said Friday she is breathing a sigh of relief.
“Everyone in the whole Tidewater area, should be praying to God and thanking them for this, because that could have been one of their loved ones,” said Ripley.
Oxycodone, cocaine, and cocaine base were also found, according to court documents.
Several addresses were listed in the indictment, including one business on Jefferson Avenue in Newport News, one house on Moss Street in Hampton, one apartment on Goldsboro Drive in Hampton, and one house on Sanderson Road in Chesapeake.
The arrests made are a result of Operation Lights Out – an investigation led by the FBI in partnership with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
Jessica Aber, theU.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, applauded the collaborative effort between law enforcement agencies that led to the slew of arrests.
“The unsealing of this indictment reflects months of incredible efforts by law enforcement. We are able to bring these charges because of the effective cooperation and collaborative effort of our local, state and federal partners on this case,” said Aber.
